Strengthening compliance & governance across borders
My journey with a large NGO began modestly, as an interpreter and translator supporting projects in Mozambique. But as I spent time with country teams and leadership, it became clear that this large NGO’s work — spanning agriculture, water, sanitation, climate resilience, and entrepreneurship — operates in an exceptionally complex global environment. With programs across Africa, Asia, and Latin America and partnerships with major donors and foundations, this project must uphold some of the highest governance standards in the development sector.
As my role evolved, I was asked to support this large NGO broader legal and compliance needs, particularly around HR governance, policy alignment, and cross-border operational risk. This required navigating ten different country contexts, each with its own legal frameworks, labor laws, and donor obligations — while ensuring this case study remained agile, mission-driven, and compliant at every level.

The foundation of trust
Through this work, I saw firsthand how essential strong governance is to impact. When policies are clear, when teams understand expectations, and when compliance structures are practical and culturally informed, organizations can operate with confidence — even under global scrutiny. And that stability ultimately protects the communities they serve.
Working alongside on this project showed me that when governance is done thoughtfully and ethically, it becomes a tool for resilience — enabling organizations to grow, sustain impact, and serve millions of people with integrity. - Camilla Gomes
How it shaped Do Good Law
My experience with this project reinforced a core truth: mission-driven organizations need legal and compliance systems that elevate their work, not limit it.
These principles became the foundation of Do Good Law.
